Good item, difficult to assemble
The item fitted my 1993 made outer door ( replaced the older one)Fitting was a bit nightmare, you need to use the tool to release the tension of the chain to fit the outer part, after fitting the door part.Otherwise working well now

It's difficult to install butnot impossible!
I had to watch a YouTube video on how to install this and basically the message was, be careful and use the provided tool to hold the spring. There is no easy way to install. You need a little bit of brute force to slowly lengthen the spring (install the door end first). The tool was flimsy and the spring snapped back a couple of times - my error and my fingers! With vice grips and leverage, I finally managed to pull the chain out enough to secure it to the door jamb. Just be sure that you have the spring adjusted before you do this part though, otherwise you are in to repeat this a couple of times. And mind your fingers! Time taken was about 15 minutes.

Effective but challenging to fit.
This is an effective concealed door closer, which I fitted to a downstairs toilet door that was irritating me because it was constantly swinging open. One gripe was it arrived without the tool that is use to retain the chain in an open position when fitting. I got over this problem using a claw hammer to separate the plates and a nail temporarily positioned between the links. It's not that easy to fit. The spring has to be powerful enough to close a door from its hinged side so separating the plates to allow fitting is an effort. You need a wood drill to make a 22 mm hole about 16 cm deep in the side of the door, which is a challenge when the door is about 30 mm thick without breeching the surface of the door, or using a drill extension to achieve the required depth. However, after fitting, it has worked well for the last few weeks, providing good closure with the right tension that allows the door to be opened easily. One obvious advantage is that it is certainly concealed and unobtrusive.

EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO FIT
Take no notice of the fitting instructions, they are completely useless. I had to look up the fitting instructions on YouTube which were perfect. The product is strong and works well but was so very difficult to fit. I’m wondering how long it will last, if it sees a year I’d be very surprised.

Strong
Well made device works on my solid pine doors.

Rubbish
Why did you choose this product over others?:I never used, the tension on this thing is ridiculous, designed for a steel door but not a wooden domestic door, it would pull the door apart.

Does what it's supposed to do
We had a bathroom and separate toilet at the back of the kitchen. We removed the bathroom to extend the kitchen. The toilet we kept but the door would swing open and this door closer was perfect for keeping the door closed.Best way to install is drill the hole in the door and mount in the hole. Leave the door frame plate unmounted and tight against the door. Then close the door - in my case this left a mark on the frame so I could mount the frame plate in the wright place. The little tool that is provided allows you to lock the chain so you can mount the frame plate. After a year there was a noise when closing the door - I thought it was the closer but it turned out to be one of the door hinges. So far can't fault it.

Really good closer
Tricky to install as separating the two plates required strength and dexterity and a few tools. However once held separated by little clip included installation not too bad. You will need a drill bit for the door hole so some diy experience will be handyHowever once installed it does a really good job. Once tweaked it closes the door to the frame without banging and stops the door from swinging open and getting damaged
